Ngamba Island is a chimpanzee sanctuary located on the large fresh waters of Lake Victoria. It was started in 1998 for purpose of protecting and conserving Chimpanzees and today it is home to over 49 orphaned chimps that have been rescued across East Africa.
A one day visit to this exquisite island will leave you greatly amazed by the close relation we have with these distinctive creatures as you closely watch them interact with their caregivers.
Note: Be sure to not forget your camera, a rain jacket, sunscreen and insect repellent.
After a short briefing by the safari guide, we will set off for Ngamba Island by speed boat which takes about 45 minutes to reach the island. When you arrive at the chimpanzee sanctuary, we will be warmly received and after a great insight into the place and the chimpanzees, we will be ready to observe man’s closest relative as they are fed from the visitors viewing platform.
The climax of a day tour to Ngamba Island is the fascinating sight of the chimps interacting with each other and with their care givers. In the relatively short amount of time you are there you will be able to see such different personalities among the group, with some whistling for food and others clapping.
After enjoying your stay to the sanctuary and a scrumptious lunch, you will get your complimentary entry to Uganda Wild Life Education Centre to view the rehabilitated wild animals. You will indeed love the natural and semi wilderness feel to this place as you get a closer look of Africa’s wild right before your very eyes.
