4 Days Murchison Falls Safari with Chimpanzees and Rhinos is an escape to Uganda’s largest wildlife park – Murchison falls National Park. The park derives its name from the magnificent falls of Murchison that emerge from the Nile River which flows through the park. Murchison falls National Park has a diverse eco system and hence a variety of wildlife.
Murchison Falls Park has the Savanna grassland, woodland, wetland and the tropical rain forest. Wildlife in the park includes animals like Giraffes, Elephants, Buffaloes, Waterbucks, Kobs, Jackson’s Hartebeests, Bushbuck, Warthog, Monkeys, Baboons, Lions, Hyenas, and Leopards among others. The park also records a high number of bird species. Budongo Forest Reserve with in the park, harbors the Chimpanzees which are habituated and therefore open for tracking by the visitors. A few kilometers outside the park is the Ziwa Rhino sanctuary where Rhino tracking is done.
Itinerary for 4 days Murchison falls national park safari with chimpanzees and rhinos
Day 1 – Kampala, Ziwa Rhino Tracking – Murchison Falls National Park
A pick up for this trip can be from any place/hotel in Kampala/Entebbe. Your driver/guide will get to your hotel/residence shortly before 7.00am for a brief before the start of the journey. You are expected to have had breakfast earlier to enable us leave on time. Drive northwards on the Kampala – Gulu highway for about 2 and half hours before turning off and driving to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola District.
In the company of a ranger, you trek the sanctuary for a chance to sight Uganda’s only wild rhinos and a number of other wildlife such as Bushbuck, Oribi, Kobs, lots of birds and several tree species. This will take roughly an hour or two. Return to your waiting car and get back on the road, proceeding to Masindi town for a lunch break. Thereafter continue for another hour and get to Murchison Falls National Park. Check in at your accommodation for dinner and overnight. Time permitting, you can do an evening game drive. Day 2 – Morning Game Drive, Afternoon Launch Cruise
After an early cup of tea/coffee head out for the morning Game Drive Experience at 6.30am. Expect to spot animals like the Giraffes, Elephants, Buffaloes, Waterbucks, Kobs, Jackson’s Hartebeests, Bushbuck, Warthog, Monkeys, Baboons, Lions, Hyenas, and Leopards among others.
The Game Drive is about four hours, return to the lodge for some relaxation before lunch. After lunch you go for the 3 hour boat cruise on River Nile as you view lots of Hippos, Crocodiles, water birds, Elephants, Buffaloes playing in the water and at the river banks. The cruise starts from Paraa near the ferry landing/departing point and goes up close to the base of the Murchison Falls Upon return, you transfer back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 – Game drive and transfer to Budongo Forest
Wake up very early for a morning game drive and after return to the lodge for your breakfast. Check out of the lodge and transfer to Budongo Forest to prepare for the Chimpanzee trek the following day in the morning. On the way to Budongo Forest, you will branch off to visit the top of the falls for a spectacular view from up. Check into Budongo Eco Lodge in the evening. Request a Quote
Day 4 – Chimpanzee Tracking – Kampala/Entebbe
After and early breakfast, you shall head into the forest to find a habituated community of Chimpanzees. After the exciting Chimpanzee tracking experience, check out of the park for some hot lunch in Masindi town before embarking on your journey back to Kampala/Entebbe.
